Black and Senator Edward Kennedy were among those honored recently in Washington DC at the second annual Realizing the Dream Awards ceremony.  The leaders were honored for their work to advance the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The ceremony took place the day before the King Day celebration and two days before President Barack Obama’s historic inauguration.  Former Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros presented the award to Rev. Black’s grandson as the famed leader was hospitalized at the time.  The former San Antonio mayor called the leader the “conscience of the community” in leading the fight against racial injustice in the 60’s.  Several alamObama members were among the 600 attendees.  Read more about the Rev.
